About Duncan Sutherland


Duncan is a Professional Certified Coach with the International Coaching Federation. He has extensive experience in executive coaching, consulting and group facilitation, with clients in both the private and public sectors ranging from CEOs to senior public sector executives and business unit managers.  Duncan has successfully designed, implemented, managed and delivered executive coaching programs in a wide range of enterprises in the public service and the NFP sector. Duncan is an approved panel member of the Australian Public Service Commission, and the NSW Public Service Commission as an Executive Coach. He is also an accredited Assessor using the Hudson method, as well as Hudson Tools for Talent (BAQ). Duncan is currently participating in the NSW Public Service Commission Executive Development Program as an assessor and executive coach with the Leadership Academy.

Duncan’s key strengths are in leadership development through the mobilisation of the soft skills, coaching skills for managers, professional development of staff, performance appraisal, and developmental coaching. Duncan has a strong Public Sector background at the executive level in education, business development, emergency services and justice services. He has successfully managed government business enterprises, both within NSW and internationally. Duncan is a Justice of the Peace in NSW, and serves as a Court Appointed Questioner in some Domestic Violence matters.

Duncan’s specialty is leadership effectiveness coaching using a strength-based future-focused approach based on models of adult development, positive psychology and neuro-science. He is accredited for The Leadership Circle leadership effectiveness 360 tool, and for the Team Management Profile for the assessment and development of team effectiveness. Where appropriate he uses a range of other tools including the VIA Signature Strengths analysis, OCEAN Big 5 Personality assessment, and DISC analysis. Duncan has extensive experience in face-to-face and on-line coaching delivery including the use of Teams, Zoom and SKYPE.
